Electromagnetic Launcher

Located in North Austin near the J.J. Pickle Research Campus, IAT currently occupies 25,000 square feet of office space. This building houses a library of electromagnetic and hypervelocity technology and related materials, a multi-access computer lab, an interactive video system to communicate with various government agencies, meeting and classroom space, and administrative and research/engineering offices.

Laboratory Facilities

IAT laboratory facilities comprise over 27,000 square feet. The laboratory provides dedicated test support for a research staff conducting both analytical and computational research in armature/rail physics, impact and penetration physics, electromagnetic launch, flight physics, and material behavior associated with hypervelocity systems.

The facility is specifically configured for concepts required to characterize launch, flight and impact performance of hypervelocity launch packages/projectiles and to examine ideas with high payoff potential.

The laboratory houses a large light gas launcher, a 40 mm electromagnetic launcher, a 13 MJ pulsed power supply, a number of EM launcher test fixtures, an array of small and medium caliber chemical launchers, extensive range tankage, a fabrication center and associated instrumentation, data collection, and analysis equipment.

IAT Technical Information Center

IAT Library PhotoHousing over 12,000 items, the IAT Library is one of the largest collections of information concerning electromagnetic launch and related technologies in the world. Although not open to the public, the IAT Library routinely addresses more than 1,400 in house service requests each year.
