Senior Service College Fellowship Program

The University of Texas at Austin Senior Service College Fellowship Program is hosted by The University's Institute for Advanced Technology (IAT). LTG(R) Dr. Paul Funk is the Fellowship Program Director. Mr. Robert Riffle manages the Fellowship Program.

In 1991, the U.S. Army designated The University of Texas at Austin (UT) as a host university for the Army's Senior Service College Fellows Program.

Initially, the program was uniquely designed for Acquisition Corps field grade Army officers and their DA civilian counter-parts -- all having technical specialties -- to study in an academic environment compatible with their background and career needs.

In 1997, the Army directed the addition of a modeling and simulation specialization for Army officers who primarily have ORSA backgrounds.

Participants will be in residence at UT for one academic year, in lieu of attendance at a Senior Service College.

Military graduates will receive the award of Military Education Level One (highest level of formal education). Department of the Army civilian graduates will receive resident Senior Service College equivalency.

The fellowship has a trilateral focus in which fellows study the relationships between:
— national security policy and process
— critical technologies
— national industrial base policy

The industrial base policy module exposes the fellows to the relationship between the government and the defense industry.

Industrial base issues are significantly enhanced through partnering and interface with local corporations such as BAE Systems, Dell Computer Corporation, IBM, Sematech URS Corporation, and Stewart and Stevensen.

Each course module is highlighted by a distinguished speaker series. Typical guest lecturers are leaders from the government, the Army, industry, and academia.
